If you know the name of any of the files, try doing a HD search for the file... It may take a while but since you didn't reformat they should still be on your drive... Once you find one file note the location for example; (C:\anyfile\wheredid_you_go.doc) The other files are likely there also... If you can only remember that the files are photos, you can search for C:\*.jpeg, or C:\*.doc for word files...
If this doesn't work then you can take the computer to a technician and have the files recovered, Most of the time it is a lot cheaper than purchasing the recovery software...

File recovery is a real "crap shoot" and the more that you use your computer before trying a recovery, the less chance there is that you can recover much if anything with free or affordable software.
