What is the best way to learn databasing software?

I am trying to start a website that is going to be mostly databasing. I have zero experience with this but some friends suggested Oracle as the software I should use. I would like to be able to do the databasing myself or at least know what I'm doing enough to not get ripped off by anyone I might pay to do this for me. All database has same concept. Storing data in database. MySQL is GPL database coming with free of cost. It is widely used in websites because it is good and tiny database. Without any knowledge of database it is better to start with MySQL because it is easy to understand and install.

I completely agree My SQL is the best free database program there is. It is extremely to remember, and php has lots of built in My SQL function!
