What type of software do I need for the TV monitors that I am installing?

Our department is requesting funds from the university to install TV monitors in each Algebra classroom. The monitors would display critical information about due dates, the department, etc. Should we just use powerpoint, or should we invest in a more sophisticated software? If so, what do you recommend? What type of software do I need for the TV monitors that I am installing? You could use Powerpoint, as it would provide a good slide show.

The only problem would be the updating process.

If the information is constantly changing, you could end up constantly rewriting the presentation.

What would probably be better would be software that provides a slide show style display while basing the actual text displayed on text within a text file or database.

Obviously, if the changes occur very rarely, Powerpoint would suffice, so it's all up to how much editing of the presentation you're happy to do.

Once you've produced the slide show, you can create a never-ending show.

EDIT:

Based on your update frequency, and that Powerpoint is designed with slide creation in mind, I'd stick with it. Also, a lot of the 'slideshow' creation tools available are centred around you supplying images that flow using transitions rather than the creation of slides themselves.

I've found this app on the web, which comes with good reviews, although how easy it is compared to Powerpoint, I couldn't say.

You might find that the app 'Impress' does a good job and is more cost effective (i.e. zero cost), as it comes with OpenOffice. Users rate it as being easier to use than Powerpoint.

Hope this helps.
